When people mention New York they often think of the city with it’s Art Deco skyline but the State of New York is also home to the Hudson River and other landmarks. Many of these have been depicted in art and photograpy.
Below are some examples of prints and photographs of New York including a lithograph of West Point, a military Academy in the Highlands of the Hudson and a gelatin print of a peddler in 1905.
This warm-toned gelatin print of a peddler by Lewis Wickes Hine, captures the human aspect of New York City from around 1905. It was signed, titled and dated in pencil on the verso.

The Shelton Hotel was the tallest hotel in the world when it was first constructed in 1924. Accordingly, the soaring Deco structure provided inspiration, and later, residence for Alfred Stieglitz and Georgia O’Keeffe from 1924 to 1935. Their view from the thirtieth floor granted sweeping views of a quickly changing skyline, studded with architectural marvels such as the Newsweek Building (built 1930-1931) and 444 Madison Avenue (built 1929)
